Winter Getaway House in the New York Catskills

Getaway House in East Catskills New York

Imagine waking up right next to a snowy forest landscape with a cup of freshly brewed coffee in your hand. This was my Getaway House morning at this tiny yet cozy cabin hideaway. To kick up the romantic snuggle vibes, thereโ€™s a fire pit and sโ€™mores!

Booking a Getaway House is still one of my favorite experiences to date.

The Catskills in Upstate New York was the final destination on our Northeast winter road trip. I wanted to end our journey somewhere relaxing, where we could be secluded and disconnect before heading back to the busyness of NYC and everyday life. The quiet of the forest and fresh upstate air can recharge any city stress or anxiety.

About Getaway House

Eastern Catskills Location (2.5 hours away from NYC)

Thereโ€™s also a Catskills West option available!

Our tiny house came with everything needed for a cabin in the woods experience without the extra space. The draw for me was the large windows peering into the woods. It felt secluded, but not scary, because you know there are 51 neighboring cabins nearby in the outpost. Canโ€™t take a city girl out in the quiet woods without some anxiety about the silence and darkness!

Sleeping on the queen size bed felt like sleeping on a plush cloud. The temperature controlled (AC/Heat) tiny cabins comes equipped with stocked kitchenette, which included dish ware, utensils, pots and pans, and even salt/pepper and olive oil. The bathroom was cute โ€” basic shower and facilities.

There is also Wi-Fi, playing cards, sโ€™mores kit and firewood with starter available for extracurriculars. We did a little bit of grocery shopping to cook the meals for our stay in the woods. Aside from the bed, the only other furniture is our tiny table for two.

Outside there is a fire pit and grill for some barbecue adventures. Seating includes a park table with benches and chairs around the fire pit.

The easiest part of this trip was the contactless check-in and check-out process.

The Experience

Disconnecting from the hectic everyday life was very easy here. Thereโ€™s lockboxes available for your phones. We were able to just enjoy each otherโ€™s company, live at a slow pace, play card games, try a new recipe, and reset ourselves. Thereโ€™s also nothing more refreshing than crisp forest mountain air in the mornings.

This was honestly my ideal cabin getaway. Itโ€™s small yet I felt very comfortable โ€” this is coming from someone who is very particular about lodging standards. I have done larger cabins, and the vibe is much different with big groups. If you want to be in-tuned with nature, possibly spot some woodland creatures, or just find a quiet place to read, I highly recommend this.

Kaaterskill Falls

About 30 minutes away from out Getaway House outpost is a popular hike and waterfall. At over 200ft high, Kaaterskill Falls is the tallest waterfall in New York. There is a 2.5 mile steep and rocky hike to the base of the waterfall. During the winter, it could be a bit treacherous but equally gorgeous to see. I recommend microspikes on your boots to tackle this adventure. Donโ€™t worry though, there is an easily accessible overlook platform at the top level of the falls to gaze at the waterfallโ€™s frozen magnificence.

Frozen Kaaterskill Falls

As a January baby, I love winter getaways. The affinity to the cold and the snow brings me to experience popular destinations in a different light. Thereโ€™s just something so beautiful about snowy woods and frozen waterfalls.

Will I book Getaway House again? 10/10 a hell yes! I would try a different location next, though โ€” maybe Big Bear in California!
