Rimmel Challenge #2: British Rock Concert

I’ve been nominated to participate in Rimmel London’s Stay Glossy Contest and am now a finalist! For the next few weeks I will be completing challenges to create head-to-toe looks for different occasions. Help me become Rimmel London’s official blogger by voting below. My second challenge:

Did you say you had backstage passes, too? I’m down. Before we go, let’s find the perfect outfit and makeup look to rock out in at the concert. I’m feeling a little casual and a splash of cool. After all, if I am going to be dancing for awhile, I better be fashionably comfortable. Today, I am bringing out my favorite rocker ankle boots and the most amazing light army-green double-slit maxi skirt. I’m also taking a trip into my boyfriend’s closet and borrowing a black v-neck tee to match my warm knit tights. Finish the outfit off with my go-to burgundy moto leather jacket to kick up the cool factor.

Going to a concert is an excuse for me to really play up my makeup. I’m going for dark smoked-out eyes and almost-nude lips. Taking a cue from my green skirt, I used a dark forest green shadow over my black liner and eyeshadow. The overall eye look is blended black with a hint of green — reminiscent of peacock feathers. I kept the rest of my face neutral and only dusting a bit of blush.

The rule of thumb when rocking a dark dramatic eye is nude or soft pink lips. Reds usually lead to vampy face, but I wanted to be bold and combine the two. I wanted the best of both worlds. So I created a nude-ish lip.

First, I wanted to put some color onto my lips. I used a thin layer of a dark red gloss all over. Using the same gloss, I pick up some more and applied heavily only along the rim of my lips, drawing a thick outline. Last, I liberally apply a nude-colored gloss inside the outlined shape, making sure to blend the edges between the two colors a bit with the applicator.
