As I pack for a trip upstate tomorrow and brace for more snow, here are some snapshots of the fishing village, Mahahual. Nowadays it’s filled with tourists, as Costa Maya is a huge cruise port. This is the second stop in Mexico, after Belize and Honduras, on our mother-daughter cruise trip. The day was bipolar with high tides and clouds coming in and out. Nonetheless, we took a taxi ($2 USD) from the shopping center to the village and plopped down under the palapas at Big Mama’s. After a tumultuous and stormy cruise trip, it was a nice welcome to step foot on land and drink some coconuts. We also indulged in fresh red snapper grilled with sides. They took a tray of fish for us to pick out! For the rest of the day, I literally beach bummed it out and did a backwards stroke out in the sea.

It might have been the weather, but the beaches and waters here doesn’t compare to much to the likes of Tulum or Isla Mujeres.
