DIY Red Carpet Gel Manicure + Tutorial (Duane Reade Shop)

Last time I shopped The Duane Reader, I was so intrigued by the Red Carpet at-home get manicure system and made a mental note to come back for it. I am a woman of her word! For this Duane Reade VIP blogger mission, I knew exactly what I was going for. EXACTLY.

Follow my shopping adventure on my Google+ photo album.

A few delights to note! I scored major savings on the Red Carpet gel manicure system thanks to the article in the reader and my Flex Rewards card. Not only that, but to my surprise, I got to redeem $5 from all the points I’ve accrued shopping at Duane Reade — totaling to almost $30 of savings! Talk about #winning :)

I decided to only get one color gel polish, just in case I didn’t like the system, but after trying it out. I plan on going back for more! Here’s what I purchased:

  • Red Carpet Professional LED Light
  • Red Carpet Purify
  • Red Carpet Erase
  • Red Carpet Prep
  • Red Carpet Structure
  • Red Carpet Brilliance
  • Red Carpet LED Gel Polish in #126 Paparazzied

I also decided to put a video tutorial together with the steps and products needed to give yourself a gel manicure in the comforts of your home!

Here are some video stills to give you an overall idea of how the process works:

Prep – Adhesion Sanitizer

Structure – Base Coat Gel

LED Light – 45secs

LED Gel Polish

Brilliance – Seal & Shine Top Coat Gel

The only thing I would recommend getting in addition to the products above is the Nourishing Cuticle Oil. There was some drying afterwards, but nothing lotion couldn’t take care of for me.

The beauty section of Duane Reade always seems to keep me guessing. I really love that they carry these types of products in their stores. I would consider this a luxury system — beyond the typical nail products you find at most drugstores. If it wasn’t for The Duane Reader, I would have never gone ahead to see what Red Carpet was about.
